I recently started Inscape, an intriguing science fiction debut from author Louise Carey.  Inscape is a compelling novel set in a corporate controlled dystopian future and follows a corporate operative as she attempts to discover the sinister source of a leak in her company.  This is a very clever read and I am hoping to finish it off in the next day or so.

Grave Peril by Jim Butcher (Audiobook)

Grave Peril Cover

I recently found myself in the mood for something fun and magical so I started listening to more awesome entries in the highly regarded Dresden Files urban fantasy series by Jim Butcher.  I have been really keen to read more of these books ever since I was lucky enough to receive a copy of the latest Dresden Files novel, Battle Ground last year.  Battle Ground was the first book of Butchers that I ever read and it ended up being one of the best books and audiobooks I enjoyed last year.  As a result, I decided to go back and check out some of the earlier entries in the series, such as the first book Storm Front, which was also really good.  I listened to the second book in this series, Fool Moon last week (review to follow soon), and had such a great time with it that I decided to go onto the third novel, Grave Peril, right away.  I only started Grave Peril this morning but so far it has an outstanding story filled with ghosts, vampires, wizards, holy knights and one ticked-off fairy godmother.  I cannot wait to see where this fantastic story goes next but I have no doubt I am going to love it.

I started reading this intriguing novel from Australian author Kelly Rimmer a few days ago and it is pretty amazing.  Set in Warsaw during World War II, this novel examines the horrors of the Warsaw Ghetto and follows two teens who work to save as many Jewish children as possible.  I have made some decent progress with this novel and it is a very haunting and powerful historical drama that is really worth checking out.

The Mask of Mirrors by M. A. Carrick (Audiobook)

The Mask of Mirrors Cover

I am still getting through this lengthy and compelling fantasy novel that I started last week.  The Mask of Mirrors is a compelling fantasy read with a lot of awesome elements to it.  Author M. A. Carrick (Marie Brennan and Alyc Helms) has crafted a complex and fascinating story which I am hoping to finish off in the next couple of hours.  This is a really great read though and I am really enjoying all the clever twists and turns.

What are you currently reading?

A Prince and a Spy by Rory Clements (Trade Paperback)

I finally got the chance to start reading A Prince and a Spy, the latest historical thriller from awesome author Rory Clements.  A Prince and a Spy is the fifth book in the fantastic Tom Wilde series, which follow the titular protagonist as he finds himself embroiled in a series of thrilling espionage missions before and during World War II.  The last several novels, including Nucleus, Nemesis and Hitler’s Secret have all been excellent reads, and I have been quite keen to check out this latest book for a while.  A Prince and a Spy has an intriguing story, based around the death of the King’s brother, the Duke of Kent, in an air accident during the war.  Clements has come up with a really cool thriller story here and I am deeply enjoying this awesome and clever read.

Star Wars: Maul: Lockdown by Joe Schreiber (Audiobook)

Star Wars - Maul - Lockdown Cover

I was in the mood to check out an older Star Wars novel and I eventually settled on the awesome Star Wars: Maul: Lockdown by Joe Schreiber.  Lockdown, which is part of the Star Wars: Legends range, is the second Star Wars book from Schreiber I have read after the insanely fun, zombie filled Death Troopers.  This book follows the iconic Darth Maul before the events of The Phantom Menace as he finds himself trapped in a deadly prison, forced to compete in a series of pit fights.  This is an extremely fun and captivating read that I should hopefully finish off in the next day or so.  I am really enjoying this great book and interested readers are in for a fantastic time if they decide to check it out.

I was in the mood for a good crime fiction novel so I thought I would check out the latest book in Jonathan Kellerman’s long running Alex Delaware series.  I have really enjoyed the last two entries in this cool series, The Wedding Guest and The Museum of Desire, and this latest book has an intriguing plot to it involving a complex cold case.  I have made a good amount of progress with this audiobook already and should finish it off soon.  It is proving to be an excellent and exciting read and I look forward to seeing how it turns out.

The Two-Faced Queen by Nick Martell (Audiobook)

The Two-Faced Queen Cover

I wasted no time in listening to The Two-Faced Queen by Nick Martell when it came out and I am deeply enjoying it so far. The Two-Faced Queen is the sequel to Martell’s outstanding 2020 debut, The Kingdom of Liars, which was easily one of my favourite books, audiobook and debut novel of 2020, and continues the epic and captivating story started in the first novel.  I am just over halfway through The Two-Faced Queen at the moment and so far it is just as awesome, if not better than The Kingdom of Liars.  I cannot wait to see how all the intricate storylines unfold and this is definitely one of the better books I have read so far this year.

It looks like I am in a bit of a thriller mood this week as the other book I am working through is The Kaiser’s Web by Steve Berry.  The Kaiser’s Web is the latest entry in the long running Cotton Malone series which involves a series of unique historical conspiracies.  I have really enjoyed this last few books in this series, The Malta Exchange and The Warsaw Protocol, and so far The Kaiser’s Web is turning out to be pretty awesome.  This latest book is based around secrets that survived Hitler’s bunker impacting a modern day German election and it will be interesting to see how Berry wraps up this captivating conspiracy.

I have made some serious progress on this cool new murder mystery novel from debuting author David Fennell and so far I am very much enjoying it.  The Art of Death is a great book that sees a murderous artist pose his kills throughout the streets of London as part of a twisted exhibition (think evil Banksy).  I am about halfway through The Art of Death at the moment and it has a pretty cool mystery to it that should be really fun to unravel.

Relentless by Mark Greaney (Audiobook)

Relentless by Mark Greaney Cover

I finally got a chance to start reading Relentless, one of my most anticipated releases for the 2021Relentless is the 10th book in Greaney’s outstanding Gray Man series and follows it’s assassin protagonist as he attempts to identify a new enemy threatening the CIA for their own nefarious reasons.  I have a lot of love for this series after deeply enjoying the previous two entries in the series, Mission Critical and One Minute Out (one of my favourite books and audiobooks of 2020), and this latest novel is so far pretty epic, full of cool espionage and intense action.

I managed to start reading The Girls I’ve Been this week and I am extremely happy that I did.  The Girls I’ve Been is a young adult thriller that follows a former teen con artist who must utilise her unique set of skills to escape a deadly bank robbery.  I was deeply intrigued by this cool sounding book when I first heard about it and so far it is living up to its hype.  This amazing book has a lot of fascinating layers and I am having an outstanding time reading it.  I am about halfway through this book at the moment, although I am hoping to finish this it off in the next day or so.  If it keeps being as awesome as it currently is I am probably going to give this book a full five-star rating because it is pretty damn incredible.

Kal Jerico: Sinner’s Bounty by Josh Reynolds (Audiobook)

Kal Jerico - Sinner's Bounty Cover

I was in the mood for something a little different the other day, so when I came across this intriguing book I missed last year I just had to grab a copy to check out.  Kal Jericho: Sinner’s Bounty is an awesome science fiction novel that is part of the extended Warhammer 40,000 universe.  Set deep underneath a massive hive city, this book follows the notorious bounty hunter, Kal Jerico, as he attempts to capture the biggest prize of his career.  Filled with fun action, magnificent depictions of a chaotic underground world, a wildly entertaining protagonist and an inordinate amount of backstabbing, Sinner’s Bounty is an extremely entertaining read that is an absolute treat to read.  I have been powering through this audiobook pretty quickly and hopefully by the end of tomorrow I will know how this twisty and captivating novel ends.
