The Last War series by Mike Shackle Artwork

I received a rather interesting letter in the mail earlier this week all the way from Canada that was sent to me by author Mike Shackle.  Shackle has very generously sent me some cool pieces of artwork related to his The Last War series of books, including cover art for his debut novel, We are the Dead, and his upcoming second novel A Fool’s Hope.

I loved these cool drawings, maps and cover art and thought I would share them with my followers.  This was a pretty awesome gift from Shackle and I am glad he sent them through.  Those readers interested in an excellent and dark fantasy debut should make sure to check out We are the Dead, while I am really looking forward to reading A Fool’s Hope in a few short months.

End of Hiatus

Just a quick notice that my recent hiatus of The Unseen Library is now over.

The last couple of months have been crazy busy for me, and included a fantastic trip over to the United States for a few weeks.

However, I am back now and ready to start reviewing again.  I have a big list of books that I have recently read and need to review that I will hopefully make some progress on this in the next couple of weeks.

Make sure you stay tuned for some reviews of 2019’s most interesting books, as well as some other exciting content.

Cover Reveal – The Queen’s Tiger by Peter Watt

I have been in a pretty good mood for the last day or so after I came across the recently released cover for the upcoming Peter Watt novel, The Queen’s Tiger:

Now you have to admit that The Queen’s Tiger, which is set to be released in mid-November 2019, has a very cool cover with some incredible artwork.  However, the main thing that drew my eye was the use of an excerpt from one of my Canberra Weekly reviews, right there on the front cover.

I have to admit that I am pretty chuffed about this.  It is always an amazing experience to have part of your review utilised in or on a published book in some way, especially when it is used on the front cover.

This excerpt was taken from this Canberra Weekly review of previous book in the series, The Queen’s Colonial, which was published in November 2018.

I was already really looking forward to getting The Queen’s Tiger by Australian author Peter Watt, due to it’s intriguing sounding plot and my desire to see how the story that started in The Queen’s Colonial continues.  However, this is another cool reason to check this book out.  I am hoping to get a copy of this book soon, and I reckon that The Queen’s Tiger will be a good book to check out.

Guardian of Empire by Kylie Chan – Back Cover Mention

I picked up a copy of Guardian of Empire by Kylie Chan today and was very pleased to see that they quoted my Canberra Weekly review of the first book in the series, Scales of Empire, on the back cover.  Check it out below.

Pretty happy that my review is the top one on the cover. I am hoping to try and read Guardian of Empire in the next few weeks, should be fun.

In the mean time, check out the full Canberra Weekly review for Scales of Empire here, and the extended review I put up on my blog here.

New book blog – Murder, Mayhem and Long Dogs

My fellow reviewer at the Canberra Weekly, Jeff Popple, has just started up a blog of his own.

Murder, Mayhem and Long Dogs is a great blog for those people interested in the latest murder mysteries and thrillers out there.  Jeff will also be checking out Trashy Book Covers from his large collection of pulp crime fiction novels.

In addition, Jeffrey will also be showing off photos of his absurdly cute miniature dachshunds on this blog, so there will be something for everyone.

So head on over to Murder, Mayhem and Long Dogs and check it out. I am looking forward to seeing how much Jeff agrees or disagrees with any of the books we both read.

From All The Tears in China by Sulari Gentill – Back Cover and Inner Page

I just started reading the new Sulari Gentill book, All the Tears in China and found that both the back cover and inner page quoted one of my old reviews:

This was my review for the seventh book in the Rowland Sinclair series, Give The Devil His Due, which I reviewed back in 2015.

Pretty chuffed that my review was the top one in the inner page.

Review of All The Tears in China to appear here and in the Canberra Weekly in the next couple of weeks.
