The Yacht by Kayte Nunn (Trade Paperback)

I’ve started reading the intriguing thriller, The Yacht by Australian author Kayte Nunn. An intense read that showcases the events leading up to the destruction of a giant superyacht hosting the troubled members of an elite family, The Yacht is so far proving to be a very entertaining read, and I’m already hooked on its story. While I haven’t made too much progress on The Yacht yet, I’m hoping to knock it off in the next couple of days and I look forward to seeing how its cool narrative comes together.

Paradox by Douglas Preston and Aletheia Preston (Audiobook)

I’m absolutely powering through the audiobook version of the entertaining science fiction thriller, Paradox. The sequel to Douglas Preston’s Extinction, which featured an outstanding story about killer neanderthal clones, Paradox has another over-the-top narrative to it, with aliens, religious murders and more, all coming into play. I’m having an amazing time with Paradox, and it looks like I’ll be finishing it off in the next day or so.

Sisters of the Lizard by Jackson Ford (Trade Paperback)

I managed to finish off the fun fantasy novel, Sisters of the Lizard by Jackson Ford this week. The sequel to Ford’s 2025 release, The Bone Raiders, Sisters of the Lizard was another awesome read, loaded with entertaining characters and an intriguing adventure with giant, fire-breathing lizards. A fantastic and exciting read.

Warhammer 40,000: Hive by Dan Abnett (Audiobook)

I also finally finished off the extensive new Dan Abnett Warhammer 40,000 novel, Hive. A vast political thriller, that showcases multiple perspectives of a gigantic underground hive city, Hive was an elaborate and addictive read, that relentlessly kept me hooked to the very end. One of my top Warhammer 40,000 novels of 2026.

What do you think you’ll read next?

LIT by Anna Woods

The next book I’m hoping to read is the compelling new novel LIT by Anna Woods. A gritty New Zealand psychological thriller, LIT has a very interesting plot behind it, when a woman finds herself seemingly haunted by visions of a missing friend. Set to be a tense and powerful novel, I’m looking forward to reading LIT soon.

Sisters of the Lizard by Jackson Ford (Trade Paperback)

I started reading the fun fantasy novel, Sisters of the Lizard by Jackson Ford this week. The sequel to Ford’s 2025 release, The Bone Raiders, Sisters of the Lizard sees a small group of raiders and thieves, attempt to stop the ravages of war and vengeance with their new giant, lizard mounts. I’m currently about 100 pages into Sisters of the Lizard and I’m enjoying its exciting narrative and entertaining characters. A fantastic novel that I am hoping to power through in the next few days.

Warhammer 40,000: Hive by Dan Abnett (Audiobook)

I’ve still got a little left of the extensive new Dan Abnett Warhammer 40,000 novel, Hive. Abnett, who has contributed some amazing entries to the Warhammer 40,000 franchise, has this time imagined a vast political thriller, taking place at multiple points in a gigantic underground hive city. Filled with intricate detail and a ton of great characters, Hive is a fantastic and elaborate read, that is relentlessly keeping me hooked. I’ve got just over an hour or so of Hive’s audiobook left, and its already one of my top Warhammer 40,000 novels of 2026.

Our Lady of Blades by Sebastien de Castell (ebook)

I managed to get through the awesome fantasy novel, Our Lady of Blades by the very talented Sebastien de Castell this week. The follow-up to de Castell’s previous impressive novels, Crucible of Chaos and Play of Shadows, Our Lady of Blades continued the adventures in the author’s Greatcoats universe, this time exploring a corrupt city ruled by powerful families and sadistic dualists. Featuring a compelling narrative of revenge and redemption Our Lady of Blades was an exceptional read that lived up to all my expectations.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Paradox by Douglas Preston and Aletheia Preston

The next book I’m planning to enjoy is the entertaining sounding science fiction thriller, Paradox. The sequel to Douglas Preston’s awesome novel Extinction, Paradox looks set to introduce another intriguing and over-the-top mystery, while the killer neanderthal clones from the first book lurk in the shadows. I have no doubt I’m going to love this book, and I look forward to exploring Paradox’s crazy story.

Our Lady of Blades by Sebastien de Castell (ebook)

I’ve recently started reading the awesome fantasy novel, Our Lady of Blades by the very talented Sebastien de Castell. The follow-up to de Castell’s previous impressive novels, Crucible of Chaos and Play of Shadows, Our Lady of Blades continues the adventures in the author’s Greatcoats universe, this time exploring a corrupt city ruled by powerful families and saddistic dualists. Featuring a compelling narrative of revenge and redemption Our Lady of Blades is proving to be an exceptional read, and one I’m very glad to finally be reading. I am flying through this novel already and I look forward to seeing how the fully story unfolds when I finish it off in the next couple of days.

Warhammer 40,000: Hive by Dan Abnett (Audiobook)

I’m still having an exceptional time listening to the new Dan Abnett Warhammer 40,000 novel, Hive. Abnett, who has contributed some amazing entries to the Warhammer 40,000 franchise, has this time imagined a vast political thriller, taking place at multiple points in a gigantic underground hive city. Filled with intricate detail and a ton of great characters, Hive is proving to be quite a fantastic read, especially with its multiple layered plotlines and conspiracies. I’m currently halfway through Hive, and it’s shaping up to be one of the top Warhammer 40,000 novels of 2026.

The Couples Retreat by Mercedes Mercier (Trade Paperback)

I managed to finish off the intriguing Australian crime fiction read; The Couples Retreat this week. A compelling novel set on Australia’s iconic Kangaroo Island, this is an interesting read with a compelling murder mystery at its heart. Highly recommended.

Ironwood by Michael Connelly (ebook)

I also managed to start and then finish off the new Michael Connelly novel, Ironwood, this week. The sequel to Connelly’s 2025 novel, Nightshade, Ironwood returns the reader to Catalina Island, with gunfights, drug deals and cold cases marring the seemingly perfect island paradise. Ironwood ended up being a particularly addictive and captivating release from Connelly, and it is easily one of the top crime fiction novels I have so far read in 2026.

Looking set to take this fantastic series in an interesting direction, Sisters of the Lizard is going to be an amazing read, and I’m very excited to dive into it.

I’ve made a bit of progress with the intriguing Australian crime fiction read, The Couples Retreat this week. A compelling novel set on Australia’s iconic Kangaroo Island, this is an interesting read with a compelling murder mystery at its heart. I’m hoping to finally get through the rest of The Couples Retreat in the next week, and I look forward to seeing where this excellent narrative goes.

Warhammer 40,000: Hive by Dan Abnett (Audiobook)

I was very excited to start the new Dan Abnett Warhammer 40,000 novel, Hive, this week. Abnett, who has contributed some amazing entries to the Warhammer 40,000 franchise , has this time imagined a vast political thriller, taking place at multiple points in a gigantic underground hive city. Filled with intricate detail and a ton of great characters, Hive is shaping up to be quite a fantastic read, and it’s one I’m glad I decided to check out. I’ve already managed to make a bit of progress on Hive, and it’s shaping up to be one of the top Warhammer 40,000 novels of 2026.

Warhammer 40,000: Da Freebooterz Code by Justin Woolley (Audiobook)

I managed to quickly finish off the awesome new Warhammer 40,000 novel, Da Freebooterz Code, by Justin Woolley last week. A fun and hilariously over-the-top novel that sees an ambitious ork pirate face off against a noble Rogue Trader, Da Freebooterz Code was an outstanding and particularly entertaining book that comes highly recommended.

A Parade of Horribles by Matt Dinniman (Audiobook)

The book I ended up focusing the most on this week was the outstanding new Dungeon Crawler Carl novel from Matt Dinniman, A Parade of Horribles. Continuing all the epic chaos of Dinniman’s incredible LitRPG series, A Parade of Horribles lived up to all its potential, with so many crazy turns and outrageous moments. Easily one of the best books of 2026, I powered through this book so damn fast and I loved every second I spent with it.

Ironwood by Michael Connelly

I hoping to start reading the new Michael Connelly novel, Ironwood next. I haven’t made as much progress on The Couples Retreat as I would have liked in the last week, but I’m hoping to make some progress on it soon.

Warhammer 40,000: Da Freebooterz Code by Justin Woolley (Audiobook)

I just had to start listening to the awesome new Warhammer 40,000 novel, Da Freebooterz Code, by Justin Woolley, as soon as I got my hands on it. I recently finished off the cool new Warhammer 40,000 book from Mike Brooks, Ghost Legion. An excellent sequel to his previous novel, Harrowmaster, Ghost Legion was a worthy follow-up, loaded with intense action and a compelling story.

Guns of the Dawn by Adrian Tchaikovsky (Audiobook)

I also recently finished listening to the epic fantasy novel from Adrian Tchaikovksy, Guns of the Dawn. An excellent early novel from this outstanding author, Guns of the Dawn, was a very clever and powerful read that I couldn’t get enough of.

What do you think you’ll read next?

A Parade of Horribles by Matt Dinniman

The next book I’m hoping to dive into is the outstanding new Dungeon Crawler Carl novel from Matt Dinniman, A Parade of Horribles. Set to continue the crazy adventures in a planet spanning dungeon being televised to the universe, A Parade of Horribles has so much potential, especially after how crazy and intensely powerful the last books in the series have been. I have no doubt that A Parade of Horribles is going to be one of the very best books of 2026, and I cannot wait to see what happens to the series’ beloved characters next.

The Exes by Leodora Darlington (Trade Paperback)

I started to read the awesome and compelling debut novel, The Exes by Leodora Darlington, this week. Following a complex character who finds herself involved in a series of problematic relationships that all end tragically for her untrustworthy partners, The Exes is a deadly and entertaining psychological thriller with some fun twists to it. I’ve made a bit of progress with The Exes this week and I’m hoping to finish it off soon.

The Book of Fallen Leaves by A. S. Tamaki (Trade Paperback)

I also started the new fantasy novel, The Book of Fallen Leaves from author A. S. Tamaki this week. An interesting release, The Book of Fallen Leaves is a Japanese inspired fantasy epic that I think has a ton of potential. I’ve only made a little progress on this novel so far, but I’m hoping to get a good chunk of it finished in the next week, especially as it has a very compelling story behind it.

Warhammer 40,000: Chem Dog by Callum Davis (Audiobook)

I’m still in a major Warhammer 40,000 mood this week, so I decided to listen to one of the more intriguing recent releases from the franchise, Chem Dog. The debut novel of the talented Callum Davis, Chem Dog sees a dedicated commissar lead a group of soldiers from an infamously criminal regiment on a desperate suicide mission, where the greatest risk comes from the commissar’s own troops. I’ve already made a decent start on Chem Dog, and I’m already quite addicted to its excellent and outrageous story.

Dark Desert Road by Tim Ayliffe (ebook)

I finished off the awesome Australian crime fiction novel, Dark Desert Road by Tim Ayliffe this week, which has been on my to-read list for a while. An intriguing read, Dark Desert Road follows a Sydney police officer who journeys into the countryside, looking for her long-lost sister who has gotten herself caught up with a group of domestic terrorists. A thrilling novel with some great contemporary focuses, this was an outstanding novel that comes highly recommended.

Warhammer 40,000: Ghazghkull Thraka: Warlord of Warlords by Denny Flowers (Audiobook)

I also finished off the highly entertaining Warhammer 40,000 novel, Ghazghkull Thraka: Warlord of Warlords by the always impressive Denny Flowers this week. Another book from Flowers that focus on the volatile and brutal ork faction, Warlord of Warlords sees betrayal, intrigue and the usual ork carnage engulf the court of the infamous, Ghazghkull Thraka. One of the more amusing and enjoyable Warhammer novels of 2026, Warlords of Warlords was an exceptional read I’m really glad I got the chance to listen to.

The Writers Retreat by Victoria Brownlee (ebook)

I had the time to check out the fun Australian novel, The Writers Retreat by Victoria Brownlee, which saw an aspiring author caught up in a dark conspiracy at a French writing retreat. A clever and cosy read that is worth checking out.

Dead Fall Lake by S. R. White

If I manage to get through the two books I’m currently reading in the next week, I’m hoping to dive into the new Australian murder mystery from S. R. White, Dead Fall Lake. Another curious and clever sounding release from one of Australia’s more distinctive, rising crime fiction authors, Dead Fall Lake has a ton of potential, and I cannot wait to check it out.

Dark Desert Road by Tim Ayliffe (ebook)

I’ve finally had the chance to start reading the awesome Australian crime fiction novel, Dark Desert Road by Tim Ayliffe, which has been on my to-read list for a while. A cool and intriguing new read from one of my favourite Australian authors, Dark Desert Road follows a Sydney police officer who journeys into the countryside, looking for her long-lost sister who has gotten herself caught up with a group of domestic terrorists. I’ve made a bit of progress on Dark Desert Road so far, and I am really enjoying its intriguing story, as well as Ayliffe’s complex take on some cotemporary Australian issues. I am hoping to finish this book off in the next couple of days, and I look forward to seeing what happens next.

The Blacktongue Thief by Christopher Buehlman (Paperback)

I had a lot of fun finally getting through the outstanding and highly regarded fantasy novel, The Blacktongue Thief. The first book from author Christopher Buehlman, The Blacktongue Thief was a great adventure story with an entertaining cast in brilliant dark fantasy world. This was a deeply impressive read, that lived up to the hype around it.

Pretenders to the Throne of God by Adrian Tchaikovsky (Audiobook)

I also finished off the excellent fantasy audiobook, Pretenders to the Throne of God by Adrian Tchaikovsky, this week, and boy was it something special. The fourth book in Tchaikovsky’s Tyrant Philosophers series, Pretenders to the Throne of God was an elaborate and captivating novel that I honestly could not get enough of. A highly recommended novel that is one of the better books of 2026, I am hoping to get a review up of it soon.

I’m planning to read several cool debut novels in the coming week, including the awesome sounding new fantasy novel, The Book of Fallen Leaves. The first book from author A. S. The Blacktongue Thief by Christopher Buehlman (Paperback)

After powering through several great recent release, I decided to mix things up a little by diving back into an older book that has been on my to-read list for a while. As such, I’ve started reading the outstanding and highly regarded fantasy novel, The Blacktongue Thief. The first book from author Christopher Buehlman, The Blacktongue Thief has had received a lot of love since its release, and I’ve always meant to check it out. With the sequel coming out later this year, I finally decided to check it out, and I’m already having a ton of fun with it. Featuring a great adventure story with an entertaining cast in dark fantasy world, The Blacktonge Thief is deeply impressing, and I’m hoping to knock it off in the next few days. An amazing read that is really living up to the hype around it.

Pretenders to the Throne of God by Adrian Tchaikovsky (Audiobook)

I’m still listening to the excellent fantasy audiobook, Pretenders to the Throne of God by the legendary Adrian Tchaikovsky, this week, and boy is it something special. The fourth book in Tchaikovsky’s Tyrant Philosophers series, Pretenders to the Throne of God follows various individuals caught up in a siege of a fantasy city, all of whom have their own problems and agendas. I’m really loving this book, which blends great personal storylines with a unique setting to create an exceptional read. I’m currently a bit over halfway through Pretenders to the Throne of God at the moment, and I should probably finish it off in the next week. I cannot wait to see how this elaborate novel comes together, and Pretenders to the Throne of God is already an extremely strong contender to be one of my favourite books of 2026.

Redbelly Crossing by Candice Fox (ebook)

I managed to finish off the Australian crime fiction novel, Redbelly Crossing by Candice Fox this week. Another cool outback thriller from Fox, Redbelly Crossing was a dark and twisty read that I couldn’t get enough off. An exceptional novel from one of Australia’s top writers.

How to Kill a Guy in Ten Dates by Shailee Thompson (ebook)

I absolutely powered through the highly entertaining first book from Australian author Shailee Thompson, How to Kill a Guy in Ten Dates this week. A very entertaining read that will saw its slasher film loving protagonist attempt to survive a serial killer stalking a speed dating event, in fun and strangely romantic, horror novel. How to Kill a Guy in Ten Dates was an outstanding novel that I powered through extremely quickly.

Redbelly Crossing by Candice Fox (ebook)

I’ve started reading the upcoming Australian crime fiction novel, Redbelly Crossing by Candice Fox this week. Another cool outback thriller from one of Australia’s most well-known authors, Redbelly Crossing has a great plot behind it, as two estranged brothers/cops, attempt to solve a dark murder in a small town. However, it soon becomes clear that only one of the brothers wants to solve the case, while the other wants to bury it by any means they can. I’ve already made a ton of progress on Redbelly Crossing, and it’s proving to be an impressive and complex read, filled with damaged characters. I’m about two thirds of the way through this book at the moment, and I’m very curious to see how the entire thing comes together.

Pretenders to the Throne of God by Adrian Tchaikovsky (Audiobook)

I’ve also recently started listening to the excellent fantasy audiobook, Pretenders to the Throne of God by the legendary Adrian Tchaikovsky. The fourth book in Tchaikovsky’s Tyrant Philosophers series, Pretenders to the Throne of God follows various individuals caught up in a siege of a fantasy city, all of whom have their own problems and agendas. I’m really loving this book so far, which blends great personal storylines with a unique setting to create an exceptional read. I’m hoping to get through a good chunk of Pretenders to the Throne of God in the next week, and I’m curious to see what cool characters and storylines emerge the further we get into it.

The Shark by Emma Styles (Trade Paperback)

I managed to knock off the cool Australian thriller, The Shark this week. The second book from author Emma Styles, The Shark is an intriguing crime fiction novel that follows two young women determined to find and stop a serial killer currently terrorising Perth. A cool and interesting read that I am hoping to review soon.

The Hard Line by Mark Greaney (Audiobook)

I’ve also powered through the audiobook version of the new Gray Man novel by Mark Greaney this week, The Hard Line. A very impressive new entry in one of my favourite spy thriller series, The Hard Line sees the protagonist attempt to stop a series of assassinations across the United States, while being hunted by a vengeful assassin, who has come out of retirement specifically to take out the Gray Man. The Hard Line was another exceptional novel from Greaney, and I really enjoyed where this elaborate entry in the series went. A highly recommended and thrilling read.

What Rhymes With Murder by Penny Tangey (ebook)

I had fun quickly reading the entertaining cosy murder mystery, What Rhymes With Murder this week. An intriguing and exciting debut novel from Tangey that makes good use of its parent-based plot.

How to Kill a Guy in Ten Dates by Shailee Thompson

I’m in the mood for more cool debuts so the next book I am hoping to check out is the first book from Australian author Shailee Thompson, How to Kill a Guy in Ten Dates. A very entertaining sounding read that will feature a deadly series of murders at a speed dating event, in fun and apparently romantic, horror novel. How to Kill a Guy in Ten Dates sounds like the perfect book for me, and I look forward to seeing how crazy it turns out to be.

What are you currently reading:

The Shark by Emma Styles (Trade Paperback)

I just started reading the cool new Australian thriller, The Shark. The second book from author Emma Styles, The Shark is an intriguing crime fiction novel that follows two young women determined to find and stop a serial killer currently terrorising Perth. Kidnapping the man everyone suspects to be the killer, the two protagonists are soon engaged in a dark battle of wills, especially when other women go missing while they have the supposed killer captured. I’ve made a bit of progress on The Shark, and it is proving to be an interesting and cool read.

The Hard Line by Mark Greaney (Audiobook)

I’ve also started listening to the audiobook version of the new Gray Man novel by Mark Greaney, The Hard Line. A very impressive new entry in one of my favourite spy thriller series, The Hard Line sees the protagonist attempt to stop a series of assassinations across the United States, while being personally hunted by a vengeful assassin, who has come out of retirement specifically to take out the Gray Man. The Hard Line is proving to be an exceptional listen, and I have made some real progress on this audiobook so far. I should be able to knock The Hard Line off in the next week, and I am extremely excited to see how this outstanding thriller comes together.

Sister Svangerd and the Not Quite Dead by K. J. Parker (Trade Paperback)

I had a good time finishing off Sister Svangerd and the Not Quite Dead by K. J. Parker this week. A clever and fun fantasy novel, that followed a complicated monk and his murderous nun assistant as they investigate strange occurrences and deaths at a major religious conference, this book delivered all of Parker’s trademark chaos, clever humour and complex storytelling as he sets up another outstanding trilogy. A great read that I had a blast with.

Jigsaw by Jonathan Kellerman (Audiobook)

I also powered through and finished the new Alex Delaware novel from Jonathan Kellerman, Jigsaw. The latest entry in Kellerman’s long-running crime fiction series, Jigsaw sees the protagonists investigate two separate and complex murders which may have an interesting connection to each other. I got through Jigsaw extremely fast last week, and it proved to be another outstanding crime fiction read.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Redbelly Crossing by Candice Fox

The next book that I am hoping to read is the upcoming Australian crime fiction novel, Redbelly Crossing by Candice Fox. Another cool outback thriller from one of Australia’s most well-known authors, Redbelly Crossing has a great sounding plot behind it, as two estranged brothers/cops, attempt to solve a dark murder in a small town. However, it soon becomes clear that only one of the brothers wants to solve the case, while the other wants to bury it by any means they can. Sure to be a powerful and compelling read, Redbelly Crossing sounds very impressive, and I look forward to diving into it next.
