Five Voices by Tamara Moss (ebook)

I’ve just started reading the cool Australian young adult murder mystery Five Voices by Tamara Moss. Featuring an intriguing narrative about a group of podcasters caught up in the murder of one of their own, Five Voices is proving to be a compelling novel and I’m curious to see where its mystery goes.

The Infinite State by Richard Swan (Audiobook)

I was in the mood for a unique audiobook this week, so I decided to listen to The Infinite State by Richard Swan. A captivating science fiction novel that sees several protagonists attempt to survive the tyrannies of a fascist space empire, including by buying their own planet, The Infinite State already has me hooked and I’m very curious to see where it goes.

What did you recently finish reading?

The Doubles by Jacob K. Gallagher (Trade Paperback)

I had a very successful week of reading, which started when I finished off the intriguing Australian urban fantasy novel The Doubles by Jacob K. Gallagher. Set in rural New South Wales, The Doubles follows a human agent of angelic powers as she attempts to discover a sinister magical trespasser killing children. An excellent debut, this was a great read I’m really glad I got the chance to check out.

Warhammer 40,000: The Wicked and the Warped by Robert Rath (Audiobook)

I also finished off the incredible new Warhammer 40,000 novel, The Wicked and the Warped by Robert Rath. The fantastic sequel to one of my favourite Warhammer 40,000 novels, The Infinite and the Divine, The Wicked and the Warped follows two immortal rivals as they embark on another chaotic expedition. This ended up being an exceptional audiobook, and one of my favourite Warhammer books of 2026.

Web of Spies by Tim Ayliffe (Trade Paperback)

A cool young adult Australian spy thriller from one of my favourite Australian authors. I was very curious to see Ayliffe’s first foray into young adult fiction, and this was a great read for younger teens.

The Killing Rules by Bree Despain (ebook)

I was on a real young adult kick this week as I also powered through the wonderful and exciting novel, The Killing Rules by Bree Despain. A very entertaining horror/thriller hybrid that follows a murderous cheerleader who goes after terrible men, The Killing Rules was an outstanding read that I had a ton of fun with.

What do you think you’ll read next?

The Daughter’s War by Christopher Buehlman

I’ve got a few things on my shelf to check out at the moment, but I think I might take the opportunity to read The Daughter’s War by Christopher Buehlman next. A prequel to Buehlman’s impressive novel The Blacktongue Thief, The Daughter’s War sounds like an incredible and dark war novel and I’m very keen to finally read it, especially with the third book in the series coming out very soon.

The Doubles by Jacob K. Gallagher (Trade Paperback)

This week I started reading the intriguing Australian urban fantasy novel The Doubles by Jacob K. Gallagher. Set in rural New South Wales, The Doubles follows a human agent of angelic powers as she attempts to discover a sinister magical trespasser killing children. I haven’t made a ton of progress on The Doubles yet, but it’s got a strong introduction and I’m already intrigued by its underlying mystery.

Warhammer 40,000: The Wicked and the Warped by Robert Rath (Audiobook)

I’m still enjoying the incredible new Warhammer 40,000 novel, The Wicked and the Warped by Robert Rath. The fantastic sequel to one of my favourite Warhammer 40,000 novels, The Infinite and the Divine, The Wicked and the Warped follows two immortal rivals as they embark on another chaotic expeditions into one of the most dangerous places in this grimdark universe. I’ve nearly finished The Wicked and the Warped and it is proving to be a hilarious and highly addictive novel with a great plot behind it.

What did you recently finish reading?

Choppy Water by Jack Heath (Trade Paperback)

I managed to finish of my early copy of Jack Heath’s Choppy Water this week. A compelling thriller that sees a fugitive cop attempt to investigate a murder aboard a quarantined cruise ship, Choppy Water is a very distinctive and exciting novel with an interesting take on the locked-room mystery.

The Reckoning by Vikki Petraitis (ebook)

I also finished off the latest Vikki Petraitis novel, The Reckoning, soon. A continuation of her series that dives into gender violence in small town Australia, The Reckoning was another exciting and confronting novel that proved to be an excellent read.

The Wreck by Riley James (Trade Paperback)

Finally, I also finished the new Riley James book The Wreck. A unique thriller novel featuring secrets and lies on a deserted island; The Wreck has a very intriguing plot behind it, which comes highly recommended.

What do you think you’ll read next?

I’ve got a few books on my to-read list at the moment, but the next thing I will probably dive into is the cool Australian young adult murder mystery Five Voices by Tamara Moss. Choppy Water by Jack Heath (Trade Paperback)

I was in the mood for a fun thriller this week, so I jumped into an early copy of Jack Heath’s Choppy Water. A compelling thriller that sees a fugitive cop attempt to investigate a murder aboard a quarantined cruise ship, Choppy Water is a very distinctive and exciting novel with an interesting take on the locked-room mystery. I’m currently about a third of the way through Choppy Water and I’m hoping to finish it off over the weekend.

He Who Fights With Monsters by Travis Deverell (Trade Paperback)

I got through a few awesome books this week, including the compelling LitRPG novel He Who Fights With Monsters by Australian author Travis Deverell, better known as Shirtaloon. A reprinting of his novel originally released online, He Who Fights With Monsters is a progressive fantasy tale that follows a random Australian dragged to an elaborate fantasy world. I ended up powering through this novel, which was highly addictive and really fun.

Mortedant’s Peril by R. J. Barker (Audiobook)

I also finally finished the outstanding fantasy novel Mortedant’s Peril. The latest book from R. J. Barker, Mortedant’s Peril follows a man who can talk to the dead, as he attempts to unravel a dangerous conspiracy within his fractious fantasy city. An incredible fantasy murder mystery novel and one of my new favourite reads of 2026.

Star Trek: The Last Starship – Volume 1 by Collin Kelly, Jackson Lanzing and Adrián Bonilla

Another cool thing I read this week was the advance copy of the new Star Trek comic The Last Starship. An intriguing comic that combined elements from several different eras of Star Trek lore, The Last Starship was a great read that explores hope in the darkest of situations. A fantastic comic that serves as an excellent start to a new series.

The Reckoning by Vikki Petraitis

While I didn’t get to it this week, I’m still hoping to dive into the next Vikki Petraitis novel, The Reckoning, soon. A continuation of her series that dives into gender violence in small town Australia, The Reckoning looks set to be another intriguing and confronting novel and should be another top piece of Australian fiction for 2026.

The Wreck by Riley James

I’m also hoping to keep the Australian crime fiction train going in the next week with the new Riley James book The Wreck. A unique thriller novel featuring secrets and lies on a deserted island; The Wreck has a very intriguing plot behind it and I’m quite curious to see how it turns out, especially after enjoying James’ debut novel The Chilling.

He Who Fights With Monsters by Travis Deverell (Trade Paperback)

This week I started reading the compelling LitRPG novel He Who Fights With Monsters by Australian author Travis Deverell, better known as Shirtaloon. A reprinting of his novel originally released online, He Who Fights With Monsters is a progressive fantasy tale that follows a random Australian dragged to an elaborate fantasy world. I’m making some good progress with this massive fantasy novel, which has a great adventure story behind it, and I’m hoping to knock it off in the next week or so.

Mortedant’s Peril by R. J. Barker (Audiobook)

I’m still going with the outstanding fantasy novel Mortedant’s Peril at the moment. The latest book from R. J. Barker, Mortedant’s Peril follows a man who can talk to the dead, as he attempts to unravel a dangerous conspiracy within his fractious fantasy city. I am having an exceptional time listening to Mortedant’s Peril, which has an addictive narrative, an intriguing setting, and a very clever mystery behind it. I am hoping to finish off Mortedant’s Peril in the next week, and I’m very curious to see how Barker ends this incredible book.

I managed to finish off the entertaining crime fiction novel, The Mortons this week. Written by the team of Justine Larbalestier and Scott Westerfeld, The Mortons is a compelling novel that follows a member of an elite criminal family as she becomes part of their murderous business. An outstanding read with a very unique story behind it.

A Trade of Blood by Robert Jackson Bennett (ebook)

I also powered through the new Robert Jackson Bennett novel, A Trade of Blood this week. One of my most anticipated books of 2026, A Trade of Blood lived up to all the hype, with another exceptional and clever fantasy murder mystery narrative. One of the best novels of 2026, this incredible and addictive read comes very highly recommended.

The Deep and the Drowned by Ian Green (ebook)

Finally, I managed to also read the epic fantasy novel, The Deep and the Drowned by Ian Green, this week. An exciting and powerful fantasy novel set on the high seas, this was a great novel and one you can really get lost in.

I’ve started reading the compelling and entertaining crime fiction novel, The Mortons this week. Written by the team of Justine Larbalestier and Scott Westerfeld, The Mortons is a compelling novel that follows a member of an elite criminal family as she becomes part of their murderous business. I’ve already made a good amount of progress with The Mortons, which is turning out to be a fantastic and impressive read. I will hopefully finish The Mortons off in the next day or two, and I’m very curious to see where its story goes.

Bad Neighbours by Joanna Jenkins (Trade Paperback)

I managed to finish off the new Joanna Jenkins crime fiction novel, Bad Neighbours this week. The follow-up to Jenkins’ previous Australian books, How to Kill a Client and The Bluff, Bad Neighbours was a compelling crime fiction read, and I deeply enjoyed it’s fantastic story and amazing twists.

Warhammer 40,000: Ghosts of Cadia by Rob Young (Audiobook)

I also finished off the latest Rob Young Warhammer 40,000 novel Ghosts of Cadia. The sequel to Young’s previous novel, Longshot, Ghosts of Cadia was a compelling, action-charged read that I couldn’t get enough of. An epic and exciting novel that comes highly recommended.

Stay Buried by Jane R. Miles (Trade Paperback)

A dark and complex Australian crime fiction debut, that makes interesting use of a major historical tragedy.

What do you think you’ll read next?

A Trade of Blood by Robert Jackson Bennett

The next book I am hoping to read is the new Robert Jackson Bennett novel, A Trade of Blood. One of my most anticipated books of 2026, A Trade of Blood will follow on from Bennett’s previous novels The Tainted Cup and A Drop of Corruption, with more exceptional fantasy crime fiction hijinks. I have no doubt A Trade of Blood is going to be exceptional, and I am so very excited to finally read this book.

I am also hoping to read the epic fantasy novel, The Deep and the Drowned by Ian Green, this week as well. I love the sound of The Deep and the Drowned’s exciting plot, as well as its outstanding cover, and I have no doubt I am going to have an exceptional time with this book.

I just started reading new Joanna Jenkins crime fiction novel, Bad Neighbours. The follow-up to Jenkins’ previous Australian books, How to Kill a Client and The Bluff, Bad Neighbours will follow the author’s recurring protagonist as she investigates a murder in her elite Sydney apartment complex. I’ve only made a little progress with Bad Neighbours so far, but I’m already curious about how its mystery is going to unwind.

Warhammer 40,000: Ghosts of Cadia by Rob Young (Audiobook)

I was in the mood for some fun Warhammer 40,000 action, so I decided to check out the latest Rob Young novel Ghosts of Cadia. The sequel to Young’s previous novel, Longshot, Ghosts of Cadia is another compelling, action-charged read that follows a band of snipers as they attempt to survive another brutal battleground. I’m having an absolute blast with this audiobook and I’m hoping to finish it off in the next week.

I managed to quickly finish off the entertaining thriller The Bone Docs by Matthew Scura this week. A unique survival thriller that sees dentists and chiropractors come to blows while trapped on a desert island, The Bone Docs was really fun and I’m hoping to get a review up for it soon.

Soulsmith by Will Wight (Audiobook)

I also managed to finish up the second book in Will Wight’s Cradle series, Soulsmith. An intriguing sequel that takes the protagonist away from his home valley into a world of insanely powerful people, Soulsmith was an outstanding read that I couldn’t stop listening to. An excellent second entry in a fantasy series I’m probably going to read a lot of in the coming year.

Stay Buried by Jane R. Miles

The next book I’m hoping to dive into is the Australian thriller debut, Stay Buried by Jane R. Miles. One of the more intriguing sounding debuts of 2026, Stay Buried has a dark mystery tied into the disappearance of four young girls in the aftermath of Cyclone Tracy. I’m really curious about how this book is going to turn out, and I think it has some interesting potential.

I was the mood for something fun this week, so I decided to start reading the entertaining thriller The Bone Docs by Matthew Scura. A unique survival thriller that sees two rival groups of dentists and chiropractors come to blows while trapped on a desert island, The Bone Docs has a very fun plot idea that really caught my attention. I’ve made a bit of progress with The Bone Docs so far, and I can’t wait to see where Scura takes this great story.

Soulsmith by Will Wight (Audiobook)

After really loving the first book in Will Wight’s Cradle series, I instantly jumped onto the second book, Soulsmith. An intriguing sequel that takes the protagonist away from his home valley into a world of insanely powerful people, Soulsmith is an outstanding read, and I’m very curious about how everything is going to unfold. An excellent second entry in a fantasy series I’m probably going to read a lot of in the coming year.

The Detective Matthew Reilly (Trade Paperback)

I ended up reading the awesome 2025 novel, The Detective by Matthew Reilly this week. A compelling crime fiction novel from one of Australia’s top authors, The Detective ended up being a particularly addictive read, that I finished off in no time at all. An exceptional novel that I am hoping to review soon, The Detective is so damn good, and I can’t wait to check out the sequel, King’s Ransom, later this year.

Unsouled by Will Wight (Audiobook)

An excellent read that I enjoyed so much, I am already reading the sequel.

Every Time She Wakes by Petronella McGovern (Trade Paperback)

An intriguing Australian novel that sees a women attempt to change her fate when she finds herself continuously thrown back in time after multiple dark tragedies. I’m enjoying this book and I’m hoping to finish it off soon.

Unsouled by Will Wight (Audiobook)

I’ve just started listening to the compelling fantasy novel, Unsouled by Will Wight. The first book in the intriguing Cradle series, Unsouled has been on my to-read list for a while, mainly because everyone always talks so highly about the Cradle books. I’m so far enjoying this first book, which is setting up both the protagonist’s narrative and the large universe the series is set in, and I’m very curious to see where this series goes. I’m hoping to get through Unsouled this week, and this seems like a great start to a cool new series for me.

What did you recently finish reading?

Red Empire by Jonathan Maberry (Audiobook)

I managed to finish off the incredible audiobook, Red Empire this week. The latest Rogue Team International novel by Jonathan Maberry, Red Empire was so damn good, combining intense action with some great historical universe developments around a key character. I am hoping to have a review for Red Empire up soon, and this book comes highly recommended.

The Lineup by Nicholas Timms (Trade Paperback)

An outstanding Australian debut, that follows a former surfer who has to returned to the sport that traumatized him to solve a murder. A particularly impressive read and a great first outing from a cool new author.

After having such an incredible time reading one of Adrian Tchaikovsky’s other 2026 novels, Pretenders to the Throne of God, I just had to read his latest book Green City Wars. An entertaining thriller that follows sentient, genetically enhanced animals who live in the shadow of a futuristic human society, Green City Wars is proving to be an amazing novel. I’m currently a quarter of the way through Green City Wars and I’m hoping to finish it off in the next week.

Warhammer 40,000: Brothers of the Snake by Dan Abnett (Audiobook)

I was in the mood for some Warhammer 40,000 fun this week, so I decided to check out the classic entry from Dan Abnett Brothers of the Snake. A compelling novel that follows a unique chapter of Space Marines, Brothers of the Snake is an interesting anthology book with multiple shorter stories following one particular squad. I am powering through this audiobook, and I should probably knock it off in the next couple of days.

The Right to Remain by James Grippando (Audiobook)

I managed to quickly finish off the latest Jack Swyteck novel, The Right to Remain by James Grippando this week. A compelling legal thriller that sees the protagonist forced to defend a client who refuses to talk to anyone, including his own lawyer, The Right to Remain was an excellent novel I had an amazing time getting through.

The next book I’m hoping to read is the 2025 novel, The Detective by Matthew Reilly. A compelling crime fiction novel from one of Australia’s top authors, The Detective has been on my to-read list for a while. What are you currently reading:

LIT by Anna Woods (Trade Paperback)

I’ve recently started reading the compelling new novel LIT by Anna Woods. A New Zealand psychological thriller, LIT has a very interesting plot behind it, when a woman finds herself seemingly haunted by visions of a missing friend. Set to be a tense and powerful novel, I’m looking forward to seeing how LIT comes together.

The Right to Remain by James Grippando (Audiobook)

I’ve also started listening to the new Jack Swyteck novel, The Right to Remain by James Grippando. A compelling legal thriller that sees the protagonist forced to defend a client who refuses to talk to anyone, including his own lawyer. I’m currently powering through The Right to Remain and I love the awesome new scenario that Grippando came up with. I’m hoping to finish it off in the next few days and I look forward to seeing how it comes together.

What did you recently finish reading?

The Yacht by Kayte Nunn (Trade Paperback)

I managed to get through the intriguing thriller, The Yacht by Australian author Kayte Nunn this week. An intense read that showcases the events leading up to the destruction of a giant superyacht hosting the troubled members of an elite family, The Yacht was very exciting read, with a deeply compelling story behind it.

Paradox by Douglas Preston and Aletheia Preston (Audiobook)

I also got through the audiobook version of the entertaining science fiction thriller, Paradox. The sequel to Douglas Preston’s Extinction, Paradox had another over-the-top narrative to it, with aliens, religious murders and more, all coming into play, and I had an amazing time getting through it.

Drop Dead Famous by Jennifer Pearson (ebook)

The final book I managed to get through this week was the fantastic young adult thriller, Drop Dead Famous by Jennifer Pearson. An excellent book with some deeply impressive twists behind it, I ended up really loving Drop Dead Famous and I’m hoping to get a review up for it soon.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Outlaw by Jim Butcher

The next book I’m hoping to dive into is the new novella from Jim Butcher, Outlaw. Providing another glimpse into the Dresden Files universe, Outlaw sounds like another outstanding read and I imagine I will get through it very quickly.
