WWW Wednesday – 27 November 2019

WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Taking on a World of Words, where bloggers share the books that they’ve recently finished, what they are currently reading and what books they are planning to read next. Essentially you have to answer three questions (the Three Ws):

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

So, let’s get to it.

What are you currently reading?

Traitors of Rome, Force Collector Cover.png

Traitors of Rome
by Simon Scarrow (Trade Paperback)

The latest book from one of my favourite authors, Simon Scarrow.  I knew well in advance that I was going to love Traitors of Rome, and it has been pretty awesome so far.  I only have around 100 pages left, and should hopefully knock it off in the next day or so.

Star Wars: Force Collector by Kevin Shinick (Audiobook)

The last Star Wars novel released in 2019, Force Collector is an interesting read that ties into the upcoming The Rise of Skywalker movie.  I’m a little way into this one at the moment, but I don’t think it is going to take me too long to finish it off.

The Bone Ships by R. J. Barker (Audiobook)

I have been reading to listen to The Bone Ships for a while, and it is among the top books I want to read before the end of 2019.  I am nearly halfway through this audiobook, and it is proving to be an exception book.

Starsight
by Brandon Sanderson (Trade Paperback)

The latest book from the outstanding Brandon Sanderson, Starsight is the sequel to one of my favourite books from last year, Skyward, and is a book that I have been looking forward to for a while.  I’m currently about a quarter of the way through this book now and I am really enjoying it.

Star Wars: Tarkin by James Luceno (Audiobook)

I felt like listening to a new Star Wars novel, and Tarkin, which was released in 2014, is one of the more interesting sounding Star Wars books I wanted to read.  I am glad that I decided to listen to it, as it is a pretty fun and clever book.

Lethal Agent by Kyle Mills (based on the series by Vince Flynn) (Audiobook)

I only just started listening to this audiobook about half an hour ago, but so far it is a pretty decent thriller.  I quite liked the previous book in this series, Red War, last year so I am sure I will power through this book rather quickly.

The sequel to the amazing 2018 fantasy novel, Cold Iron, Dark Forge is an epic adventure story set in an intriguing fantasy world.  I have got about an hour left in this book and I would highly recommend it.

Extinction Machine by Jonathan Maberry (Audiobook)

With the next Joe Ledger series from Jonathan Maberry starting in a few months, I thought I would try to get further into this series.  Only a few hours in to this one already, but I think I will be giving this one another five-star review.

Gideon, The Possession.png

Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir (Hardcover)

This is a fun science fiction novel, and features lesbian necromancers in space.  I have been looking forward to this one for a while and so far it is pretty good.

The Possession by Michael Rutger (Audiobook)

The follow up to last years awesome novel, The Anomaly, The Possession is another cool book that has a pretty intriguing horror storyline.  I had hoped to finish this book off today, but my phone crashed for a bit.  I should get it knocked off tomorrow and will hopefully get a review up for it soon.

Harp of Kings, Red Metal 2.png

The Harp of Kings by Juliet Marillier (Trade Paperback)

Red Metal by Mark Greaney and Lt. Col. H. Ripley Rawlings IV. USMC (Audiobook)

What do you think you’ll read next?

Black Spire, The Antares Maelstrom.png

Ok, I will admit it, these are a couple of nerdy choices, but both sound really cool and I am looking forward to checking them out.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge – Black Spire by Delilah S. Dawson (Trade Paperback)

The latest Star Wars novel for 2019.  I am curious to see how a book whose release is mainly thanks to a theme park ride turns out, but I reckon it should be a fantastic read.

Star Trek: The Original Series – The Antares Maelstrom by Greg Cox (Audiobook)

I have been really getting into Star Trek fiction lately, especially the audiobook formats which are particularly good. The Antares Maelstrom has an interesting sounding plot, and I have previously enjoyed the audiobook narrator’s work in Available Light and The Captain’s Oath.  I should start listening to this book tomorrow and hopefully I will be able to power through it fairly quickly.

Red Metal by Mark Greaney and Lt. Col. H. Ripley Rawlings IV. USMC (Audiobook)

Currently just over half way through Red Metal and I am still really enjoying this book.  Just as I predicted, this is a great military thriller and the authors do a fantastic job of showing off a major, modern day conflict.

What did you recently finish reading?

It has been a bit of a slow week for me reading wise, as I have only managed to finish off one book.  Still it was a pretty intriguing read and I am looking to pick up the slack in the next few days.

Red Metal by Mark Greaney and Lt. Col. H. Ripley Rawlings IV. USMC (Audiobook)

I have been wanting to read Red Metal for a while now, as I believe it has the potential to be one of the best military thrillers of 2019.  I am three and a half hours into it at the moment, and it is an amazing book that I am having a lot of fun listening to.

Spaceside
by Michael Mammay (Ebook)

Spaceside is a book that I have been wanting to read for some time, and so far it has not disappointed.  I only just started this last night, but I am powering through it pretty darn quickly and it is already an incredible sequel to Planetside, which was one of my favourite books from last year.

Howling Dark by Christopher Ruocchio (Audiobook)

I am still going with this audiobook and I am really enjoying it.  It is a very dark follow-up to Empire of Silence and I am very curious to see where the story goes next.  I should be able to finish this by the end of the week but I still have a bit to go.

What did you recently finish reading?

Tony Park, Collaborator Covers.png
Ghosts of the Past by Tony Park (Trade Paperback)

This was an exceptional novel from Australian author Tony Park that does a fantastic job combining two historical fiction storylines with a modern thriller.  I will hopefully get a review up for this soon, because it was a really good book.

The Collaborator by Dianne Armstrong

Another great piece of historical fiction from another amazing Australian author.  I have done a review of this book for the Canberra Weekly, which will be published in next Thursday’s edition.

What do you think you’ll read next?

The Bone Fire by S. D. Sykes (Hardcover)

The Bone Fire Cover

I am hoping to read The Bone Fire next.  It sounds like it will be an outstanding historical mystery with a really cool concept.

I have not decided which audiobook I am going to listen to next.  There are a ton of great options out there, and I probably will not make up my mind until after I finish listening to Howling Dark.
