High Wire by Candice Fox (Trade Paperback)

I just started reading the awesome new Australian thriller High Wire by Candice Fox. Fox’s third book of 2024, High Wire is an exciting thriller with some real bang behind it. I’ve only read a little of High Wire so far, but I am enjoying its high-octane narrative, and I can’t wait to see where it goes.

Warhammer 40,000: Lazarus: Enmity’s Edge by Gary Kloster (Audiobook)

I’ve spent most of this week listening to the awesome Warhammer 40,000 audiobook, Lazarus: Enmity’s Edge by Gary Kloster. An impressive and epic read that follows a company of the Dark Angels to a mysterious planet, Enmity’s Edge has proven to be an exceptional read, loaded with intensity, conspiracy and compelling characters. I have deeply enjoyed this exceptional audiobook, and I am hoping to finish it off in the next day or so.

Capture or Kill by Don Bentley (ebook)

I manage to finish off the latest Mitch Rapp novel, Capture or Kill. The first book in this long-running series written by new author Don Bentley, Capture or Kill was an intense and thrilling read that set the murderous protagonist on another dark journey.

What do you think you’ll read next?

The Waiting by Michael Connelly

I am really hoping to read the new Michael Connelly novel The Waiting this week. The latest book from Connelly to feature his awesome police protagonists, Renee Ballard and Harry Bosch, The Waiting will see them team up to investigate another series of intriguing cases, including an infamous cold case. Set to be one of the best crime fiction reads of 2024, I have been really excited for The Waiting and I cannot wait to see what twisty mysteries Connelly has written this time.

Capture or Kill by Don Bentley (ebook)

I just started reading the latest Mitch Rapp novel, Capture or Kill. The first book in this long-running series written by new author Don Bentley, Capture or Kill is so far proving to be a great addition to the series that sets the protagonist against a dangerous new enemy. The first 50 pages of this book have proven to be very interesting, and I am curious to see how the rest of Capture or Kill unfolds.

What did you recently finish reading?

Terra Incognita by Simon Turney (ebook)

A fantastic novel that follows a squad of Roman soldiers looking to find the source of the Nile, Terra Incognita was a fun and engrossing read I couldn’t get enough of.

We Solve Murders by Richard Osman (Audiobook)

I just finished the audiobook version of the new Richard Osman novel, We Solve Murders. An intriguing murder mystery set outside of Osman’s Thursday Murder Club series, We Solve Murders was an incredible read, that is easily one of the best things I have read in 2024 so far.

An Eye for an Eye by Jeffrey Archer (ebook)

An outstanding, fast-paced and compelling new novel from Jeffrey Archer that sets his long-running protagonists against several criminal enterprises, including the machinations of their deadly rival.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Death on the Tiber by Lindsey Davis

Death on the Tiber Cover

While I have a few potential books to read next, I am hoping to finally dive into the new Lindsey Davis novel, Death on the Tiber. The latest book in Davis’ long-running Flavia Albia historical murder mystery series, Death on the Tiber will see the series’ protagonist investigate another complex murder in ancient Rome, this time while dealing with demons from her past. I really love this amazing series, and I have no doubt I will have a wonderful time reading Death on the Tiber.

Terra Incognita by Simon Turney (ebook)

I have started reading the intriguing historical read, Terra Incognita by Simon Turney this week. A fantastic novel that follows a squad of Roman soldiers looking to find the source of the Nile, Terra Incognita is Turney’s second book of 2024 (he also released the fantastic novel Agricola: Invader), and it is proving to be an excellent and addictive read.

We Solve Murders by Richard Osman (Audiobook)

I have also started listening to the audiobook version of the new Richard Osman novel, We Solve Murders. An Eye for an Eye by Jeffrey Archer

While I have several books I want to read next, I think I’ll start by diving into the new Jeffrey Archer book, An Eye for an Eye. The latest book in his William Warwick series, An Eye for an Eye will see the series protagonists investigate a complex murder case, while also battling the malign influence of a sinister art thief with a grudge against them. The William Warwick books always prove to be a ton of fun and I have no doubt that this latest entry is going to keep me very entertained.

The Wrong Hands by Mark Billingham (Trade Paperback)

I started reading the entertaining thriller The Wrong Hands by Mark Billingham. A unique English crime fiction read with a distinctive protagonist, The Wrong Hands is so far proving to be a pretty enjoyable novel, and I look forward to seeing how it comes together.

Warhammer 40,000: Daemonbreaker by Jude Reid (Audiobook)

I also just started listening to the latest Warhammer 40,000 novel, Daemonbreaker by Jude Reid. Following a warrior nun as she becomes involved in a great conflict, Daemonbreaker should prove to be a pretty fantastic read. I really enjoyed Reid’s first novel, Creed: Ashes of Cadia (one of my favourite debuts of 2023), and I cannot wait to see how the author’s second outing turns out.

What did you recently finish reading?

Precipice by Robert Harris (Trade Paperback)

A very compelling book that perfectly covers an infamous World War I scandal involving the British prime minister. Precipice was a pretty intriguing and unique read, and I had a fantastic time getting through it.

Warhammer 40,000: Oaths of Damnation by Robbie MacNiven (Audiobook)

An excellent audiobook that features an intense and captivating story around the infamous Exorcists chapter of Space Marines. Exciting, powerful, and highly recommended to Warhammer fans.

Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett (Audiobook)

I finally got around to listening to the new audiobook version of one of my favourite Discworld novels, Guards! Guards!. Featuring a fantastic cast, this new version of Guards! Guards! was really fun to listen to, and it proved to be the perfect accompaniment for a road trip.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Precipice by Robert Harris (Trade Paperback)

I started reading the historical thriller Precipice this week. The new book from the always outstanding Robert Harris, Precipice covers an infamous World War I scandal involving the British prime minister. I have made a little bit of progress on Precipice already and I am loving the author’s deep dive into the controversial events surrounding this scandal.

Warhammer 40,000: Oaths of Damnation by Robbie MacNiven (Audiobook)

I didn’t get a lot of time to listen to audiobooks this week, so I’m still going with the entertaining Warhammer 40,000 audiobook, Oaths of Damnation by Robbie MacNiven. Following the infamous Exorcists chapter of Space Marines, Oaths of Damnation sees the Exorcists attempt to track down a dangerous daemon before it reveals their chapter’s darkest secrets. Despite my slow progress, this is a very awesome audiobook and I look forward to seeing how it all comes together.

The Youngest Son by John Byrnes (Trade Paperback)

An excellent historical crime fiction read that follows a compelling family in early 20th century Sydney.

King’s Enemy by Ian Ross (Trade Paperback)

The final book in the de Norton trilogy, King’s Enemy was everything I hoped it would be and more. An outstanding final entry in a trilogy that previously featured the awesome books Battle Song and War Cry, King’s Enemy saw the protagonist, now declared a traitor, fight in England’s most infamous siege. This was an extremely epic historical novel, and I am hoping to get a review up for it soon.

The Death of Dora Black by Lainie Anderson (Trade Paperback)

A great Australian historical mystery, set around the British Empire’s first female police officer.

What do you think you’ll read next?

The Wrong Hands by Mark Billingham

I have several amazing books to check out next, but I think I’ll quickly dive into the entertaining thriller The Wrong Hands by Mark Billingham. This book sounds like a ton of fun, and I have no doubt that I am going to have an outstanding time getting through it.

The Youngest Son by John Byrnes (Trade Paperback)

I just started reading the intriguing Australian historical novel, The Youngest Son by John Byrnes. A compelling read set-in 20th century Sydney that follows several members of a working-class family as they attempt to survive the various key historical events of the period. I am already having a lot of fun with The Youngest Son, and it should prove to be an excellent piece of Australian fiction.

Warhammer 40,000: Oaths of Damnation by Robbie MacNiven (Audiobook)

I’m always in a Warhammer mood so I just started listening to one of the latest Warhammer 40,000 audiobooks, Oaths of Damnation by Robbie MacNiven. A fun and exceptional legal thriller from the always awesome Steven Cavanagh, Witness 8 was a pretty amazing book with a fantastic and exciting story.

The Chilling by Riley James (ebook)

A gripping Australian thriller, The Chilling, was an outstanding debut from Riley James set at an Antarctic research station. An excellent read that I really enjoyed.

Five Broken Blades by Mai Corland (Audiobook)

I finally managed to finish off the Five Broken Blades audiobook this week. The first adult fantasy novel from author Mai Corland, Five Broken Blades sees a group of deadly liars attempt to take down an immortal god king. This proved to be a very awesome read, and I loved it’s fantastic and twisty ending.

The next book I am hoping to read is the epic historical fiction novel, King’s Enemy by Ian Ross. The Last Shield by Cameron Johnston (ebook)

I just started reading the awesome fantasy novel, The Last Shield. The new book from Cameron Johnston, who has really impressed me in the past, The Last Shield is a very cool dark fantasy read that pits a lone guard against a deadly heist crew. Essentially a fantasy Die Hard, The Last Shield has so much potential, and I am already having a ton of fun with it.

Five Broken Blades by Mai Corland (Audiobook)

I didn’t make as much progress with the Five Broken Blades audiobook this week as I would have liked, mainly because I was out of commission with a bad cold. The first adult fantasy novel from author Mai Corland, Five Broken Blades sees a group of five deadly liars attempt to take down an immortal god king. While I didn’t listen to as much of it as I had hoped, I am still having a lot of fun with Five Broken Blades, and it is proving to be a solid and compelling read.

What did you recently finish reading?

Confessions of the Dead by James Patterson and J. D. Barker (Trade Paperback)

A dark and chilling novel about strange events that occur around a small mountain town when a mysterious girl appears. Featuring a compelling plot and an intriguing premise, this was an excellent read and one that proved hard to put down.

The Recruiter by Gregg Podolski (ebook)

A fun and fast-paced thriller debut that saw a man who specializes in recruiting killers, forced to go up against his most prized assassins when they go after his family. An awesome read that proved to be an outstanding first book from Podolski. Review to follow soon.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Witness 8 by Steve Cavanagh

The next book I am planning to read is the awesome legal thriller, Witness 8 from the always impressive Steve Cavanagh. Once again placing his former conman lawyer protagonist in an unusual courtroom scenario, Witness 8 will see an unassuming key witness attempt to send an innocent man to jail for her own twisted purposes. I always have so much fun with Cavanagh’s outstanding books, I have no doubt this is going to be an exceptional read.

The Chilling by Riley James

I am also hoping to read the Australian thriller, The Chilling, in the next week. The debut book of Australian author Riley James, The Chilling will see a group of researchers at an Antarctica research station, deal with a series of sinister events. I love the sound of this cool new book, and I cannot wait to check it out.

I just started reading the compelling thriller, Confessions of the Dead by the superstar team of James Patterson and J. D. Barker. A dark and chilling read about strange events that occur around a small town when a mysterious girl appears, Confessions of the Dead is already proving to be very intriguing, and I am quite invested in seeing how events unfold. The last book I read from Patterson and Barker, Death of the Black Widow, was particularly impressive, and I have no doubt that Confessions of the Dead is going to turn out to be just as epic.

A relatively short but exciting Warhammer audiobook, that really dove into one of the franchise’s most fascinating factions.

A Darkness Returns by Raymond E. Feist (ebook)

I just started reading the new Raymond E. Feist novel, A Darkness Returns. An intriguing high fantasy novel, A Darkness Returns sets up a cool new series from Feist that brings together two of his prior series set on different worlds. I am already really enjoying this book, and I cannot wait to see how it turns out.

Warhammer 40,000: Lelith Hesperax: Queen of Knives by Mike Brooks (Audiobook)

I was still in a big Warhammer mood this week, so I decided to listen to the latest Warhammer 40,000 audiobook, Lelith Hesperax: Queen of Knives. Written by Mike Brooks, who has released several amazing Warhammer novels in recent years, this new book will follow members of the canon’s most duplicitous race, as they battle for power and their immortal souls. I’ve only made a little bit of progress on this book so far, but I am very intrigued by its cool plot. Lelith Hesperax: Queen of Knives is a relatively short Warhammer audiobook, so I will probably finish it off in the next couple of days, and I cannot wait to see how it unfolds.

The Outsider by Stephen King (Audiobook)

I quickly finished off the audiobook of The Outsider by Stephen King this week, and boy was it epic. One of the better Stephen King novels I have so far read, I cannot wait to review it.

Sentinel by Mark Greaney (Trade Paperback)

A sequel to Greaney’s previous novel, Armored, Sentinel was an intense and deeply exciting action read that proves hard to put down.

Warhammer 40,000: Renegades: Lord of Excess by Rich McCormick (Audiobook)

A fantastically over-the-top Warhammer 40,000 novel that follows the very best of the bad guys. I just finished this audiobook off, and it was pretty damn awesome. Easily one of the best debuts I have so far read this year.

The Mercy of Gods by James S. A. Corey (Trade Paperback)

The team behind The Expanse, James S. A. Corey, produced another exceptional science fiction read with The Mercy of the Gods. Epic in scope and plot, this was one of the very best science fiction books of 2024.

Breaking the Dark by Lisa Jewell (Trade Paperback)

An intriguing murder mystery novel set in the Marvel universe and following the damaged figure of Jessica Jones as she investigates an unusual crime. Breaking the Dark was an outstanding read, and I am hoping to get a review up for it soon.

The Outsider by Stephen King (Audiobook)

For the last week I’ve mostly been getting through the audiobook of The Outsider by Stephen King while away on a road trip. Unsurprisingly considering who the author is, The Outsider is a pretty dark and powerful read that sees unnatural forces surround a gruesome murder investigation. I have absolutely loved powering through this book in the last week, and I only have a little bit left until it’s finished. I will hopefully get a review of The Outsider up ASAP and I cannot wait to talk about how great this book is.

Sentinel by Mark Greaney (Trade Paperback)

A sequel to Greaney’s previous novel, Armored, Sentinel provide readers with an intense, action-packed read, and I am looking forward to seeing how it unfolds. Due to being away, I haven’t made that much progress with Sentinel in the last week as I would have liked, but I am hoping to make up some ground in the next couple of days.

Warhammer 40,000: Renegades: Lord of Excess by Rich McCormick (Audiobook)

A fantastically over-the-top Warhammer 40,000 novel that follows the very best of the bad guys. I haven’t made any progress on Lords of Excess in the last week due to other reading commitments, but I will start listening to it again in the next day or so and hopefully I can finish it off by this time next week.

The Sandman: Act III by Neil Gaiman (Audiobook)

Another outstanding adaptation of the iconic The Sandman comic. Act III was a fantastic and addictive affair with an elaborate story and exceptional celebrity cast, and it proved to be a great follow up to the excellent Act I and Act II of the series.

What do you think you’ll read next?

The Mercy of the Gods by James S. A. Corey

One of the next books I am hoping to read is The Mercy of the Gods by the team behind The Expanse, James S. A. Corey. The Mercy of the Gods has an epic and deeply compelling plot, and this will probably end up being one of the very best science fiction books of 2024.

Breaking the Dark by Lisa Jewell

I am also hoping to read the intriguing murder mystery novel Breaking the Dark in the next week. Written by acclaimed crime fiction author Lisa Jewell, Breaking the Dark is set in the Marvel universe and will follow the damaged figure of Jessica Jones as she investigates an unusual crime. I am very curious about how this book is going to turn out and I have a feeling it is going to be awesome.
