What are you currently reading:

Whisper in the Wind by Luke Arnold (Trade Paperback)

I just started reading the epic urban fantasy novel, Whisper in the Wind by Luke Arnold. An intriguing addition to the author’s Fetch Phillips series, Whisper in the Wind returns the reader to the ravaged Sunder City as the damaged protagonist is forced back into his private investigator ways to solve a series of murders and uncover a hidden revolutionary. I’ve only made a little bit of progress with Whisper in the Wind at the moment, but it is proving to be an excellent book with a really fun plot behind it.

The Devils by Joe Abercrombie (Audiobook)

I’m currently halfway through the epic and outrageous dark fantasy novel, The Devils by Joe Abercrombie, and boy is it proving to be something special. One of my most anticipated fantasy novels of 2025, The Devils follows a mismatched group of monsters as they try to survive a dark and magic-filled alternate medieval Europe and place an unlikely princess on the throne of Troy. Wildy entertaining and deliciously over-the-top, The Devils is so damn good, and I am loving every single second I spend listening to it.

Vanish by Shelley Burr (ebook)

An outstanding and compelling piece of Australian crime fiction.

Open Season by Jonathan Kellerman (Audiobook)

An amazing addition to the long-running Alex Delaware series, Open Season was very impressive, and I loved its cool mystery.

Feet of Clay by Terry Pratchett

I had so much fun once again revisiting Terry Pratchett’s outstanding classic, Feet of Clay, which perfectly combines crime fiction and fantasy elements, wrapped up in the author’s unstoppable humour.

Whisky Valley by Joan Sauers (ebook)

The cool sequel to Echo Lake, Whisky Valley was an excellent and comfy read that makes good use of its Australian setting.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Everybody Wants to Rule the World Except Me by Django Wexler

If I get a chance next week than I’m definitely going to read the hilarious fantasy novel, Everybody Wants to Rule the World Except Me by Django Wexler. The sequel to the amazing and deeply funny How to Become the Dark Lord and Die Trying, Everybody Wants to Rule the World Except Me will see the new titular Dark Lord try to save the pesky humans she is supposed to conquer, all while trying to survive her own minions. Sure to be an amazing and highly addictive read, I know I am going to love this incredible book.

What are you currently reading:

Vanish by Shelley Burr (ebook)

I didn’t get as much reading time this week as would have liked so I’m still going with the Australian crime fiction novel, Vanish by Shelley Burr. An excellent continuation to the author’s ongoing series, Vanish sees the damaged protagonist attempt to solve one last missing person’s case, only to encounter a mysterious farm filled with people who want to disappear. I’m about a third of the way through Vanish at the moment, and I am still really intrigued by its cool premise and underlying mystery. I’m hoping to knock Vanish off later this week and look forward to seeing where Burr takes the story.

Open Season by Jonathan Kellerman (Audiobook)

I managed to start and get a fair way into the new Jonathan Kellerman mystery, Open Season this week. The latest book in the author’s Alex Delaware series, Open Season sees the protagonists investigate several mysterious, but connected, murders around LA. I’m around halfway through Open Season at the moment, and I am really enjoying its complex story, which is going in some very interesting directions. I’m hoping to knock Open Season off in the next couple of days, and it is proving to be an amazing read.

What did you recently finish reading?

Men At Arms by Terry Pratchett (Audiobook)

I managed to knock off the audiobook version of the awesome Terry Pratchett novel, Men At Arms this week. The sequel to Guards! Guards!, Men at Arms is one of my favourite Discworld novels and I had an exceptional time getting through this audiobook, especially as the new audiobook version features an exceptional team of narrators.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Feet of Clay by Terry Pratchett

I’ve got a few books that I want to read next, but if I finish off Open Season in the coming days I’ll probably dive into another Terry Pratchett book with Feet of Clay. The third book in Pratchett’s City Watch subseries, Feet of Clay features a really cool story with a clever mystery and some great humour. I am very interested in seeing how this book comes across in the new audiobook format, and I have no doubt it will be an amazing experience.

I just started reading the new Australian crime fiction novel, Vanish by Shelley Burr. After having a lot of fun listening to new audiobook versions of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld like Pyramids and Small Gods, I decided to check out another amazing book from the series in this format with Men At Arms. The sequel to Guards! Guards!, Men at Arms is one of my favourite Discworld novels and I am already enjoying listening to the story with a new narrator.

Barren Cape by Michelle Prak (ebook)

An intriguing, dark and topical Australian thriller that I’m glad I got the chance to read.

Midnight Black by Mark Greaney (Audiobook)

An epic continuation to one of my favourite spy thriller series, Midnight Black was an exceptional read and I’m hoping to review it soon.

Barren Cape by Michelle Prak (ebook)

An intriguing, dark and topical Australian thriller, that sees three women each try to find sanctuary from their lack of housing in an abandoned construction site, resulting in dark consequences for their actions. I’ve made a bit of progress on Barren Cape this week and I’m hoping to knock it off soon.

Midnight Black by Mark Greaney (Audiobook)

I’m still listening to the excellent spy thriller, Midnight Black. The latest Gray Man novel by Mark Greaney, Midnight Black sees the author’s elite assassin protagonist attempt to save the woman he loves from a remote Russian prison. I’ve made a good amount of progress on Midnight Black this week, and it is proving to be an excellent and clever addition to one of my favourite spy thriller series.

Retreat by Krysten Ritter (Trade Paperback)

A fun and witty thriller that proved to be extremely captivating.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Vanish by Shelley Burr

I’ve got a few interesting books I could potentially read next, including a few older paperbacks that I’ve been meaning to read for a while. However, I think I might try and start reading the upcoming Australian crime fiction novel, Vanish by Shelley Burr, in the next week. An intriguing continuation to the author’s ongoing series, Vanish should be pretty awesome and I cannot wait to check it out.

I finally started listening to the excellent spy thriller, Midnight Black. The latest Gray Man novel by Mark Greaney, Midnight Black will see the author’s elite assassin protagonist attempt to save the woman he loves from a remote Russian prison. This thriller has so much potential, and I cannot wait to see how explosive Greaney makes his latest book.

An intriguing and inventive Australian crime fiction read that provides a grim look into the future.

Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins (Audiobook)

I just finished off the new Hunger Games novel, Sunrise on the Reaping. Set before the original trilogy, Sunrise on the Reaping follows a fan favourite character from the books and films as he goes through his own deadly Hunger Games. I absolutely loved this book, and Collins took the story in some very interesting directions. A must read for all Hunger Games fans.

The next book on my to-read list is the outstanding Australian thriller Barren Cape. Featuring a very cool plot concept, Barren Cape sounds really awesome and I cannot wait to dive into it.

Landfall by James Bradley (ebook)

I’ve just started reading the intriguing Australia crime fiction novel Landfall by James Bradley. Set in a dystopian, flooded Sydney, Landfall follows a dark missing person’s case with major complications. I’ve made a bit of progress with Landfall so far and I am very intrigued to see how it turns out.

Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins (Audiobook)

I didn’t get as much audiobook listening time as I would have hoped this year, but I have still made a bit of progress with the new Hunger Games novel, Sunrise on the Reaping. Set before the original trilogy, Sunrise on the Reaping follows a fan favourite character from the books and films as he goes through his own deadly Hunger Games. I am really enjoying this new addition to the Hunger Games universe, especially as Collins is taking the story in some very interesting directions. I’m just about to start the games section of the book, and I have no doubt I am going to love every second of this dark and compelling young adult read.

What did you recently finish reading?

A Drop of Corruption by Robert Jackson Bennett (ebook)

I managed to finish off the exceptional fantasy murder mystery, A Drop of Corruption by Robert Jackson Bennett this week and boy was it awesome. The sequel to Bennett’s 2024 novel, The Tainted Cup (one of my favourite books of 2024), A Drop of Corruption was an outstanding and compelling read that perfectly combined a complex mystery with Bennett’s inventive fantasy elements. One of the best fantasy novels of 2025 so far and a very highly recommended read.

Pacific Heights by S. R. White (Trade Paperback)

I had a lot of fun reading the captivating Pacific Heights by S. R. White this week. An intriguing Australian murder mystery, Pacific Heights contained a twisty and clever mystery, complicated by conflicting witnesses. A great piece of Australian fiction, I am hoping to get a review for it up soon.

2 Sisters Murder Investigations by James Patterson and Candice Fox (Trade Paperback)

I also managed to power through the very entertaining novel, 2 Sisters Murder Investigations by the outstanding team of James Patterson and Candice Fox. A sequel to their previous novel, 2 Sisters Detective Agency, this was an amazing book with a very strong story behind it.

What do you think you’ll read next?

I started reading the exceptional fantasy murder mystery, A Drop of Corruption by Robert Jackson Bennett this week and boy is it awesome. The sequel to Bennett’s 2024 novel, The Tainted Cup (one of my favourite books of 2024), A Drop of Corruption sees the author’s entertaining protagonists investigate another impossible crime in a land constantly under attack from giant monsters. An outstanding and compelling read that perfectly combines a complex mystery with Bennett’s inventive fantasy elements, A Drop of Corruption is so damn good and this will probably end up being one of my top books of 2025.

Burn to Shine by Jonathan Maberry (Audiobook)

I managed to finish off the epic new Jonathan Maberry audiobook, Burn to Shine this week, and boy was it awesome. The fourth book in Maberry’s Rogue Team International series (Rage, Relentless and Cave 13), Burn to Shine was a brutal and deeply intense thriller loaded with action and an elaborate plot that I couldn’t stop listening to. Highly recommended and I am hoping to get a review up for it soon.

When the Moon Hits Your Eye by John Scalzi (ebook)

I absolutely powered through the highly entertaining new novel from John Scalzi, When the Moon Hits Your Eye this week. A hilarious novel with a unique plot behind it, When the Moon Hits Your Eye was so much fun and I am really glad I got the chance to read it.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Pacific Heights by S. R. White

I have a few books I’m hoping to start in the next week and the first of them will probably be Pacific Heights by S. R. White. An intriguing Australian murder mystery, Pacific Heights will see detectives try to unravel the different stories from five witnesses who each saw the same murder take place. I look forward to unwrapping White’s outstanding story and Pacific Heights promises to be an impressive read.

How to Slay on Holiday by Sarah Bonner (ebook)

I’ve started reading the very entertaining thriller, How to Slay on Holiday. The cool new book from Sarah Bonner, who previously impressed me with Her Perfect Twin and Her Sweet Revenge, How to Slay on Holiday sees a woman take her entire extended family on an exclusive vacation to set up her alibi for her husband’s upcoming murder. However, between escalating family issues, various secrets and hidden agendas, nothing goes the way she plans. I am having a lot of fun with How to Slay on Holiday and it is proving to be an excellent and twisty read. I should finish it off this weekend and I cannot wait to see how it turns out.

Burn to Shine by Jonathan Maberry (Audiobook)

I am still going very strong with the epic new Jonathan Maberry audiobook, Burn to Shine. The fourth book in Maberry’s Rogue Team International series (Rage, Relentless and Cave 13), Burn to Shine is a brutal and deeply intense thriller loaded with action and an elaborate plot that sees some of the worst enemies from the series return in a destructive way. Intense, dark and highly captivating, I am really enjoying this epic novel and Burn to Shine will probably end up being one of my favourite books and audiobooks of 2025.

The White Fortress by Boyd and Beth Morrison (ebook)

I ended up powering through the compelling historical thriller The White Fortress from Boyd and Beth Morrison this week. The follow-up to The Lawless Land and The Last True Templar, The White Fortress was a very exciting novel with some amazing historical details around it. Review to hopefully follow soon.

What do you think you’ll read next?

When the Moon Hits Your Eye by John Scalzi

I’m hoping to start listening to the highly entertaining new novel from John Scalzi, When the Moon Hits Your Eye next. An awesome sounding novel with a unique plot behind it, When the Moon Hits Your Eye sounds like so much fun and I cannot wait to start reading it.

Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins

I’m also hoping to start listening to the audiobook version of the new Hunger Games novel, Sunrise on the Reaping. I have had an exceptional time with Suzanne Collins’ other Hunger Games books, and I’ve heard this one is pretty amazing as well.

The White Fortress by Boyd and Beth Morrison (ebook)

I’ve just started reading the compelling historical thriller The White Fortress from Boyd and Beth Morrison. The follow-up to The Lawless Land and The Last True Templar, The White Fortress is an exciting novel that sees two unlikely heroes attempt to save a small town from invasion by uncovering a journal written by Marco Polo. I’ve made a bit of progress on The White Fortress, and it is proving to be an excellent addition the series and I cannot wait to finish it off.

Burn to Shine by Jonathan Maberry (Audiobook)

I have also started listening to the epic new Jonathan Maberry novel, Burn to Shine. The fourth book in Maberry’s Rogue Team International series (Rage, Relentless and Cave 13), Burn to Shine is a brutal and deeply intense thriller loaded with action and an elaborate plot. I have so much love for the Rogue Team International series and Burn to Shine will probably end up being one of my favourite books and audiobooks of 2025.

The Reunion by Bronwyn Rivers (Trade Paperback)

A fantastic and compelling Australia debut that comes very highly recommended.

Star Wars: Reign of the Empire: The Mask of Fear by Alexander Freed (Audiobook)

I managed to finish off the cool new Star Wars audiobook, The Mask of Fear by Alexander Freed, which follows the early day of the Emperor’s reign. A very intriguing addition to the Star Wars canon loaded with cool lore and some compelling political commentary, this was a very excellent book to check out.

A Death in Berlin by Simon Scarrow (Trade Paperback)

An impressive and addictive piece of historical crime fiction from one of my favourite authors. Review to hopefully follow soon.

The Whisperer’s War by Jackie French (Trade Paperback)

An outstanding historical drama from one of Australia’s best authors.

What do you think you’ll read next?

The Reunion by Bronwyn Rivers (Trade Paperback)

I just started reading the intriguing new Australia debut, The Reunion. Set in the Blue Mountains (a location I have a lot of love for), The Reunion follows a group who return to the scene of their friend’s death and find their dark secrets coming to the surface. I haven’t made too much progress with The Reunion yet, but I am already very intrigued by the mystery and cannot wait to see how it unfolds.

Star Wars: Reign of the Empire: The Mask of Fear by Alexander Freed (Audiobook)

I am still enjoying the cool new Star Wars audiobook, The Mask of Fear by Alexander Freed. The first book in the outstanding Reign of the Empire trilogy, The Mask of Fear follows the early day of the Empire’s reign, as several key supporting characters attempt to fight back against it in various ways. I am about two thirds through The Mask of Fear at the moment, and I am hoping to finish it off this week. It will be very interesting to see how this outstanding book comes together, and I am really enjoying this cool read.

I powered through the new Harlan Coben book, Nobody’s Fool, on the weekend, and it proved to be quite an exceptional read. A captivating and brilliant novel, Nobody’s Fool comes very highly recommended, and I am hoping to have a review up for it soon.
