WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Taking on a World of Words, where bloggers share the books that they’ve recently finished, what they are currently reading and what books they are planning to read next. Essentially you have to answer three questions (the Three Ws):
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?
So, let’s get to it.
What are you currently reading?
The Lost Ten by Harry Sidebottom (Hardcover)
I’m currently halfway through this book and hoping to finish it off in the next day or so. I have been really looking forward to this book for a while, especially after Sidebottom’s previous book, The Last Hour. So far it has not disappointed and I am really enjoying it.
Star Trek: The Captain’s Oath by Christopher L. Bennett (Audiobook)
I am only a couple of hours into this but it is quite an interesting Star Trek book so far.
What did you recently finish reading?
Star Wars: Thrawn: Treason by Timothy Zahn (Trade Paperback)
Knight of Stars by Tom Lloyd (Hardcover)
King of Assassins by R. J. Barker (Audiobook)
What do you think you’ll read next?
Graveyard Shift in Ghost Town by Michael Pryor (Trade Paperback)
Dark Blade by Steve Feasey (Trade Paperback)
I am currently working on a young adult column for the Canberra Weekly, and I am planning to feature the two books above as well as War of the Bastards by Andrew Shvarts. It should make for a good column, which will be published in two weeks.
That’s it for this week, check back in next Wednesday to see what progress I’ve made on my reading and what books I’ll be looking at next.
I really need to start the new Thrawn trilogy. I’ve got the first two, just have to actually decide to start them. I’ve at least liked most of the new Star Wars books I’ve read, but these seem to be especially well-liked. Have a great week!

I would highly recommend the new Thrawn books. The series as a whole very good, and books 1 and 3 are particularly exceptional. I really hope they make some new ones in the future.

I’ve never read a Star Trek book but I am a (fairly) recent fan. Which book would you recommend beginning with?

Hi, thanks for your comment and that’s a good question about Star Trek books. I have been enjoying some of these Star Trek tie-in novels lately but not sure I’m the best person to ask, as there are over 840 Star Trek novels currently out there and I’ve only read 3 so far. Still I think the best way to decide is to work out which Star Trek television/movie series you like the most and go from there. If you’re a fan of the original series I would suggest something like The Captain’s Oath, which has a pretty awesome summary of Kirk’s life. If you are into Next Gen I would check out some of the Star Trek: A Time To series which ran in 2004 or the Relaunch series that started in 2005 with Death in Winter. Both these series are a non-canonical continuation of the Next Gen storyline after Nemesis and are pretty interesting. There are also some good recent canonical novels for Star Trek Discovery which are worth checking out. Hope you find one that you like.

Truthfully, I am all about Captain Picard so that is solid advice on where to start!
